Statement

In her series of square 8 x 8 inch paintings the watercolor fits perfect because of its fluid dreamlike qualities. Sometimes a found photo works as reference, but more recently she simply follows the spontaneous nature of the paint itself, the mistake, or  stain after washing a rejected piece, to pull out the figure and emotion as it appears. Apart of her process is trying to bridge to the subconscious mind and excavate the reaccuring themes of loss, death, fragility, violence, fertility and motherhood.

“As an afterthought to a painting, I usually draw a connection to a specific text, passage, or line of a poem that I have read. This connection informs the title of the work, and often leads to a series of related paintings.”
