Gloryhole, 2021
oil on paper, 21 x 27 cm
The idea behind these paintings is a journey in space and time. They were painted over the last 1.5 years, but never at the same time.
I like to think of them as part of my strongest intuitions about the tension between imaginary and reality.

STATEMENT
Noemi’s paintings provide an insight into the complex correlation of familiar form, waving matter, and abstraction. Her ability to make use of everyday objects, to wrest them from their native context and re-locate them, gives us access to a vibrant impression. The canvas becomes for the viewer an exciting place – a scene – determined by omnipresent forces, which remain as hidden as the particles and statutes of our own physics, yet always present and palpable.
Her mostly large-scale works create a snapshot of this unique arena of the potentially most powerful antagonists: matter versus projection, space versus surface, objectivation versus facticity. The resulting collision of these forces is equally perceptible and provocative, intangible yet reconcilable.
